Customised Paint Colours and Handles

All our British handmade furniture is available in one of our 4 x wood stain colours, hand waxed or the choice of our 16 paint colours that we have listed. If the particular colour is not listed in the drop down button menu then please select a colour from the SAME COLOUR GROUP (as this will give the correct price) then TYPE in the SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS BOX (found when you add the item to your cart) the COLOUR that YOU WOULD LIKE.

Sometimes due to the size options and variations of a hand made product means that we have run out of space in the background of the website hence why sometimes not ALL of OUR COLOUR OPTIONS are actually listed. All our furniture is available in all of the colours below.

WOOD STAINS & LACQUER

Because pine is a real, natural material, the colour of the timber will gently evolve as it ages — even once it has been stained. This is completely normal and part of what gives solid wood its character.

When a pine-coloured stain and clear lacquer is first applied, it brings out the warmth and grain of the timber. Over time, especially with exposure to natural light, the colour can deepen slightly and take on a warmer, more golden tone (this is called mellowing and turns to the antique colour).
Some of our customers ask for the furniture to look like this mellowed antique colour from the start and we can do this by request. However, it will change to this colour on it's own eventually.

Areas that get more sunlight may change a little quicker than others, so you might notice subtle differences across the piece. Even without strong sunlight, the wood will still mellow gradually, giving it a richer, more settled look as it ages. This can not be stopped.

It’s one of the lovely qualities of real wood, and something that makes each piece unique. Many people find that their furniture actually looks even better as time goes on.

A simple tip to keep the stain colour more even is to occasionally move items placed on top (like lamps or ornaments), so the wood ages consistently underneath.

PAINT

All of our paint is sourced from a British specialist supplier and is a durable, spray-applied two-part lacquer system. We carefully mix this together ourselves in-house to achieve a strong, long-lasting finish that’s specifically designed for furniture.

This is quite different from paints you’d typically buy in DIY stores, which are generally made for brushing or rolling onto walls rather than being sprayed onto wooden furniture.

In terms of appearance, our finish is closest to an eggshell sheen, which means it has a soft, subtle finish with a gentle low-level shine. It’s not completely matt, but not glossy either—just enough to give the furniture a bit of warmth and depth, depending on the light in the room of course.

  • IF YOU ARE WANTING A PAINT COLOUR THAT IS NOT LISTED on our site as one of the 16 that we offer...

    • Manufacturers’ Actual Paint

If you would like to use the manufacturer’s own paint that you’ve purchased from a DIY store or has been used in your home (for example Dulux, Heritage, Neptune, Wren, Crown, Craig & Rose etc.), we do have the option of supplying our furniture in RAW WOOD (no finish) for you to get the specific paint and do this yourselves at home.

This allows you to use the exact paint and colour that you have already chosen for your home.

Please note that we do NOT purchase or use paint from specific manufacturers.

Colour Match Mix Service – IMPORTANT INFORMATION

For an additional cost, our paint supplier can mix a spray-applied version of most colours from paint manufacturers such as Farrow & Ball, Little Greene, Dulux and all RAL numbers This will be in a matt finish similar to eggshell.

Please remember this service is for the colour only, not the paint manufacturer’s paint itself. When ordering, you will need to select COLOUR MATCH MIX from the drop-down menu.

There may be slight variations in colour or shade due to the way different paint manufacturers process their paint formulas. Our paint supplier does not have access to specific manufacturer’s formulas as these are not shared. If it is not essential that the colour is an exact match, then this service is a great option.

Our supplier can only work from the paint manufacturer’s official colour chart, using the colour name or a RAL number. Unfortunately, they cannot accept sample pots of paint or items with the colour on them.

      Important Notes

      • We do NOT use or purchase the actual paint manufacturer’s paint for custom colours.
      • Our finish is a specialised 2-part paint and lacquer mix, which is designed specifically for spray application and gives a much better furniture finish.
      • Most standard manufacturer paints are designed to be brushed or rolled onto walls, not sprayed onto furniture.

We also do not have small wooden painted samples available for these special paint colour requests, as each colour is especially mixed specifically for your order and the amount needed. Our supplier will not mix sample pots for us.

If you choose the Colour Match Mix service, we are unable to replace the item if the paint colour is not what you were expecting, as Cheshire Pine can not take responsibility for the colour.

Unfortunately we are UNABLE to colour match ANY CROWN PAINT or JOHNSTONES colours.

EXAMPLES

PAINT

All our paint comes from a specialist paint supplier and is a durable and sprayable 2 part lacquer paint mix that we mix ourselves. We do not use paint that is bought off the shelf from a DIY store. This is a similar sheen to an eggshell finish.

Eggshell finish is a paint with a soft, low-sheen appearance, similar to the surface of an eggshell. It falls between a flat and a satin finish, offering a subtle shine that adds a subtle warmth and depth to a room.

CUSTOMERS OWN HANDLES

  • We supply all our furniture with FREE WOODEN KNOBS as standard. These are 40 mm
  • We can fit your own handles on to your cupboard here at our workshop before delivery if you send them to us. This is because there are thousands out there and you can pick any you like.
  • We just ask that you send your handles to us with a note of your NAME and ORDER NUMBER to the address below.
You will get an email from me asking you to send your handles if we have not already had them at the time that the machining starts.
We do not drill any holes for handles until further down the manufacturing line (once it is constructed and prior to painting they are drilled and fitted, they are then removed and then put back on once painted ready for delivery).
If you do send them sooner rather than later this is also not a problem as I have a storage area for customers own handles that are all labelled up.
Bar handles are not a problem either. We will just need your handles to do the drilling and fitting when the time arises.

Unfortunately this can not be done by our driver on your delivery day in your home, but you can fit your handles yourselves once the delivery has been made if you prefer.

The vertical door rails where the handles are fitted on our cupboards are 65 mm wide. As these are handmade there is a variation once planed to fit of between 63mm and 65mm.

HOW WE MANUFACTURE
All our furniture is made using solid timber - no MDF, plywood or man made boards are used, even when painted. We use a Kreg® Pocket-Hole Machine to construct cabinet furniture, bookshelves, tables etc with multiple joints in a professional way. It drills a pilot hole and counterbore at a 15-degree angle into the timber without the use of glue, nails and screws on the outside what can be on view, look very unsightly and not very strong. It enables us to construct furniture from the inside instead of the outside. Our time served cabinet makers have used this for many many years and it gives the best strength and most stable construction out there. These pilot holes are visible on the inside side edge.
