Customised Paint Colours and Custom Handles

Paint Finish & Custom Colour Information

Our Paint Finish

Our painted furniture has a finish that is closest to an eggshell sheen. This provides a soft, subtle appearance with a gentle low-level shine. It is neither completely matt nor glossy, offering just enough depth and warmth to enhance the furniture’s character. The appearance may vary slightly depending on the lighting in your room.

Looking for a Paint Colour We Don’t Offer?

If the paint colour you require is not one of the 16 standard colours available on our website, we offer the following options:

Option 1: DIY Finishing

If you would like your furniture finished in a specific paint manufacturer’s colour (for example, Dulux, Heritage, Neptune, Wren, Crown, Craig & Rose, etc.), we can supply the furniture in raw wood (unfinished).

This allows you to purchase and apply the exact paint and colour you have already selected for your home, ensuring a perfect match.

Please note: We do not purchase or use paint supplied by specific manufacturers.

Option 2: Colour Match Mix Service

For an additional charge, our paint supplier can create a spray-applied colour match for most paint colours from manufacturers such as:

  • Farrow & Ball
  • Little Greene
  • Dulux
  • Most RAL colours

The sheen is similar to an eggshell finish.

When ordering, please select “Colour Match Mix” from the drop-down menu.

Important Information

This service matches the colour only, not the manufacturer’s paint itself.

Our supplier creates a custom spray finish based on the paint manufacturer’s published colour chart or a RAL reference. They do not have access to manufacturers’ proprietary paint formulas, which means slight variations in colour or shade may occur.

If an exact colour match is not critical, this service is an excellent way to achieve a colour very close to your chosen paint.

Colour References We Can Accept

Our supplier can only work from:

  • An official paint manufacturer’s colour name
  • A paint manufacturer’s colour chart reference
  • A RAL colour number

Additional Charge for Physical Samples

Unfortunately, our supplier cannot colour match from wet paint samples, sample pots, painted objects, or other physical items within the standard Colour Match Mix service.

If colour matching from a physical sample is required, there is an additional £30 charge, which is the fee charged to us by our supplier.

Please Read Before Ordering

  • We do not purchase or use the actual paint manufacturer’s paint for custom colour orders.
  • Our finish is a specialist two-part paint and lacquer system, designed specifically for spray application on furniture.
  • This system provides a more durable and consistent furniture finish than most wall paints.
  • Most paint manufacturer’s products are designed for brush or roller application on walls rather than furniture spraying.
  • We are unable to provide painted wood samples for custom-mixed colours, as each colour is mixed specifically for individual orders.
  • Our supplier does not produce sample pots for custom colour requests.

Returns & Replacements

If you choose the Colour Match Mix service, we cannot accept responsibility if the final colour is not exactly what you expected.

As each colour is specially mixed to your specification, we are unable to replace or refund items based on colour variations or expectations.

Colours We Cannot Match

Unfortunately, we are unable to colour match any Crown Paint or Johnstone’s Paint colours.

EXAMPLES

Our Standard Finishes

All of our British handmade furniture is available in a choice of 4 wood stain finishes, each hand-waxed or lacquered for a beautiful, durable finish, or in any of our 16 paint colours.

If your preferred colour is not displayed in the drop-down menu, please select a colour from the same colour group to ensure the correct pricing is applied. Then, when adding the item to your basket, simply enter your chosen colour in the Special Instructions box.

As each piece is handmade and available in a wide range of sizes and variations, our website is sometimes unable to display every colour option within the product configuration menus. However, all of our furniture can be finished in any of the colours shown below, regardless of whether they appear in the drop-down selection.

WOOD STAINS & LACQUER

Because pine is a real, natural material, the colour of the timber will gently evolve as it ages — even once it has been stained. This is completely normal and part of what gives solid wood its character.

When a pine-coloured stain and clear lacquer is first applied, it brings out the warmth and grain of the timber. Over time, especially with exposure to natural light, the colour can deepen slightly and take on a warmer, more golden tone (this is called mellowing and turns to the antique colour).
Some of our customers ask for the furniture to look like this mellowed antique colour from the start and we can do this by request. However, it will change to this colour on it's own eventually.

Areas that get more sunlight may change a little quicker than others, so you might notice subtle differences across the piece. Even without strong sunlight, the wood will still mellow gradually, giving it a richer, more settled look as it ages. This can not be stopped.

It’s one of the lovely qualities of real wood, and something that makes each piece unique. Many people find that their furniture actually looks even better as time goes on.

A simple tip to keep the stain colour more even is to occasionally move items placed on top (like lamps or ornaments), so the wood ages consistently underneath.

PAINT

All of our paint is sourced from a British specialist supplier and is a durable, spray-applied two-part lacquer system. We carefully mix this together ourselves in-house to achieve a strong, long-lasting finish that’s specifically designed for furniture.

This is quite different from paints you’d typically buy in DIY stores, which are generally made for brushing or rolling onto walls rather than being sprayed onto wooden furniture.

In terms of appearance, our finish is closest to an eggshell sheen, which means it has a soft, subtle finish with a gentle low-level shine. It’s not completely matt, but not glossy either - just enough to give the furniture a bit of warmth and depth, depending on the light in the room of course.

CUSTOMERS OWN HANDLES

  • We supply all our furniture with FREE WOODEN KNOBS as standard. These are 40 mm
  • We can fit your own handles on to your furniture here at our workshop before delivery if you send them to us. This is because there are thousands out there and you can pick any you like.
  • We just ask that you send your handles to us with a note of your NAME and ORDER NUMBER to the address below.
You will get an email from me asking you to send your handles if we have not already had them at the time that the machining starts.
We do not drill any holes for handles until further down the manufacturing line (once it is constructed and prior to painting they are drilled and fitted, they are then removed and then put back on once painted ready for delivery).
If you do send them sooner rather than later this is also not a problem as I have a storage area for customers own handles that are all labelled up.
Bar handles are not a problem either. We will just need your handles to do the drilling and fitting when the time arises.

Unfortunately this can not be done by our driver on your delivery day in your home, but you can fit your handles yourselves once the delivery has been made if you prefer.

The vertical door rails where the handles are fitted on our cupboards are 65 mm wide. As these are handmade there is a variation once planed to fit of between 63mm and 65mm.

HOW WE MANUFACTURE

All our furniture is made using solid timber - NO MDF, NO plywood and NO man made boards are used, even when painted.

We use a
Kreg® Pocket-Hole Machine to construct cabinet furniture, bookshelves, tables etc with multiple joints in a professional way. It drills a pilot hole and counterbore at a 15-degree angle into the timber without the use of glue, nails and screws on the outside what can be on view, look very unsightly and not very strong. It enables us to construct furniture from the inside instead of the outside.

Our time served cabinet makers have used this for many many years and it gives the best strength and most stable construction out there. These pilot holes are visible on the inside side edge.
